'Neath The Fruitless Mulberry Tree

We circled her base with lights
Once for Christmas
Now can't bear to take them down
I repose, I suppose
'Neath the fruitless mulberry tree
Only to find rapture
In a cool summer Delta breeze
That often caresses the Sacramento area
In just the right places

Molly, the Worlds Greatest Goldie
Savors her new tennis ball
In a rooted cradle
'Neath the fruitless mulberry tree

Long shadows provide perfect contrast
Between tree, grass, plants and structures
I begin to wax poetic... to mark the evening
A mood feared by many

This Powder Keg 2009 Cabernet
Aint' too shabby either!

The green tin frog agrees...
With these observations
The Green Tin Frog helps Molly keep an eye on things
in the South Forty
Of the damn fine things in life
I make note that it is speechless with admiration.
Isn't it!?

I named it "Herb" after all those frogs
Jack Sender killed in Ohio
He claims he didn't do it
He claims they went missing
But the truth rides in on the Delta breeze
'Neath the fruitless mulberry tree

Just between you and me
And Molly of course
Because she presides
'Neath the mulberry tree
And Molly knows her frogs

As well as her "Cereal Killers"

Old Dogs

Sacramento's famous Ancil Hoffman horse and foot path
The start of a 3.5 mile adventure for Molly and I.
Two old dogs
Molly and me
On an adventure

To recapture the old days
When she was young
And I had decent wheels

On this trip we had a new companion
The titanium hip (a new wheel)
We were testing all the parts, her, me and the hip
On the venerable Ancil Hoffman trail

But first a little (honest!) background
On my February post surgery visit
My surgeon had these words to share as it ended
"You can jog if you want, but we don't encourage it."

To this old dog those words were license to steal
Ancil Hoffman Golf Club -We circled the perimeter on a great
day and were not conked by a single errant shot!
Very similar to the taste of a watermelon that is stolen
As opposed to one that is purchased
The former infinitely better.
Molly looking over the famous American River - site of the
famous California Gold Rush and a famous Golden Retreiver
A lot of fame to be sure...
Yesterday, some 10 weeks after the fake hip literally 'joined' me
Molly and I were going for it!

Truth be known
The trail is 90% soft packed dirt - easy on the joints

Also, my "jog" is much more like a shuffle
Doesn't even cause Molly to break into a trot

We did it
Just over an hour
Likely around three and a half miles
Molly with the RedSled at the end of the trail
One pooped puppy!
An entire circuit around the park, nature trail, river and golf course

Life is good.
Nah, it is better than good.
It is great.
Just gotta' make it that way.

Stogie Time

Note:  this will be the first (maybe the last)
In a series of
Salient, Visceral, Sage, at times (all) irreverent
Observations from yours truly
The Common Man

Its about the intricacies of life
As seen through the eyes of
A passionate, cigar smoking...
(okay, one a week or so)
Wine swilling...
Harley riding...
(not as much as I'd like)
Old dude
(yeah I gotta admit it sooner or later)

So.  Now that I think about it
This has been the general tone
Of all my blog entries
For the past couple of years!

Looking backward
It appears something
"May be gaining on me"
To paraphrase my old hero,
Satchel Paige

So here it is in sum,
The ride is great.
Don't F___ with the ride.

And here is a "ride" from today:  Molly, Famous Olympic Dog
